- The Production Process of Silk FabricsSilk production begins with sorting cocoons by quality before soaking them in hot water to loosen proteins while preserving silk gum. During reeling, workers extract fiber ends, thread them through eyelets, and wind onto wheels. Multiple filaments combine into continuous threads, which are packaged into skeins, books, and bales. Further processing includes sorting, soaking with oils and soap, and sun-drying. Different twisting techniques create various fabric textures. After degumming, silk can be dyed either as yarn or finished fabric. The industry distinguishes between pure-dyed silk and weighted silk (containing added metals).
